In March 2003, an expert from the SPC came over to establish the clam hatchery. Two species of clams T.derasa and T.squamosa were trialed for spawning.However, the hatchery still requires a back–up generator and a sea water pump. Without these equipments the operation cannot operate because it needs 24 hours power supply for water circulation in the tanks.
