  • Giant clam

    Fiji has one of the most extensive giant clam aquaculture programs in the region.

    Pioneering work on giant clam aquaculture was conducted at the Makogai Island Giant Clam hatchery which is operated by the Ministry of Fisheries. The whole of Makogai Island is defined as a quarantine ground under national quarantine regulations.

    Fiji also has some of the main giant clam exporters whom service the aquarium trade.
