  • There is interest in producing locally farmed shrimp for the domestic tourism industry. The country has approximately 60-90,000 tourists per year.

    Macrobrachium lar is the indigenous species considered to have the most potential. MMR is currently undertaking a small scale trial on the growth rate of M.lar. Juvenile stock is being collected from the wild. Small time catch on occasions are sold to restaurants and hotels at 50 per kg.
