Soft and hard corals are being cultured in Pohnpei. The MERIP has extended its expertise to local communities and those are culturing green leather soft corals (Sarcophyton sp.) and staghorn coral fragments (Acropora sp.). The MERIP also have a giant clam hatchery. So far, all the coral fragments (frags) were sold to a commercial operator in Majuro (RMI) for the ornamental trade.
